The California Farm Bureau market- ing team, including Christina Apkarian, Connor Duncan, Alex Eickmann and Darren Lee, won top honors for best so- cial media presence for content focused on highlighting California farmers and ranchers, celebrating agriculture and illu- minating key policy issues.

Riverside County project awarded $25 million grant The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced it is investing $83 million in domestic fertilizer production in hopes of spurring economic growth in rural com- munities and increasing competition in agricultural markets. The new funding from the Fertilizer Production Expansion Program, support- ing projects in 12 states, includes a $25 mil- lion grant to build and equip a food waste upcycling facility in Riverside County’s Jurupa Valley that will use insects to recycle food waste into organic nutrient fertilizer. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in a statement that the USDA is “commit- ted to bolstering the economy and increas- ing competition for our nation’s farmers, ranchers and small business owners.” The California Farm Bureau earned more arwards in the competition than any other state organization. The awards, recognizing media prod- ucts and communications outreach efforts by state Farm Bureaus, were presented at the AFBF’s communcations conference in Waco, Texas, in May.
